The General Chat Thread (2024)

My Mom is down in bed with diarrhea. I helped her last night, after the hike. Will go see her in an hour today, too.
My daughter bought her adult diapers some hours ago, as Mom can't walk out yet. She said Grandma laughed with her, so I take that to be good news.

The peculiar detail is, that when I visited on Sat, 10 am, she was fine. She came down later, don't know exactly. Plus, she did not call me for her condition, but to intermediate in a fight between her and my Dad.
My Dad's dementia is apparently worse. He had two brain strokes, and he is affraid of burglers.
Which he repeats every day, to my Mom's anger.
I helped them order and arrange to install a new, modern door, half a year ago.
The door to the building though is not in pristine condition. The chairlady of the building council is aware. There is a new rule to lock the door 22 to 06.

And, to the horror of us all, there was an actual murder, 3 floors above my parents, a month ago.

So on one hand, I do totally get my Dad. And my Mom.

It was quite intense. Off I go...

So satisfying when you find something like that for someone else!
It was his Christmas present last year, so yes. His old wallet was giving up, so I bought him a new one with RF scanning protection. It's not quite so new looking now.

Wow well done.
Thank you indeed.
My nephew and his son visited yesterday and volunteered to help clear some trees so we took down 4 more. Six hands work a lot faster than two. I have hundreds of trees on my property but the "weed" trees near the house are the ones I have to clear out every now and then. It is amazing how fast they grow. Yesterday's trees were about 50 feet high. I fed everybody my andouille sausage mac and cheese with air fried turnip and tossed salad. I almost ran out of beer.

At last, they have found the boy who drowned near my home in February.

Xielo Maruziva: Body discovered in search for two-year-old who fell into River Soar

Workmen from the council were clearing a large tree that had fallen into the river over the winter. This is less than a kilometer from where he fell in.

At least now his parents and family can bury him and mourn properly.

Terribly sad, I hope they get some relief from it and feel they’re able to say a proper goodbye.

I always said he wasn't far away because there were too many obstacles to stop him. Really feel for the workmen, how awful for them.
Now his family can grieve and move on as best they can.

Apparently there was a summer storm accumulating last night, for the north part of the country.
On my way back from work, I went into a grocery store. While standing in line at the cashier, I looked out and thought to myself, since when did the store install dark window panes?
It wasn't window panes, it was clouds, and around 8 pm it was as dark as 21,30...these days daylight stays until 20,30...20,45ish...

Luckily neither the wind nor the rain were too strong, where I live. This morning is lovely and sunny. The light enhanced some beautiful flower shots.

Thankfully my poorly chook has made a full recovery because the automated chook door that allows them to free range has failed. So we're back on manual opening and closing, which involves propping their automatic door open with a piece of wood and wedging it shut again at night. We always do a head count at night, but it's a pain having to open up a well. I had forgotten how much we rely on it. Tomorrow we now have to go out to buy a new soldering iron because my old gas one has stopped lighting. So I can't fix the chook door.
