The rice looks yum. What a good idea to mix rice and roni...
I recently watched a Spanish rice video recipe, it looks delicious, quite some veges and lots of spice, and finished in the oven. I will want to try both this and the Spanish rice...đź‘Ť
Thanks. As others have pointed out, it's a rice-and-pasta mix. The store-bought stuff comes in a variety of flavors.

During the pandemic, we had a period where pasta was hard to get, and all they had on the shelf was fideo (broken up vermicelli). I bought it, then read up about it online, and the only recipes I could find that used it were sopa de fideo recipes - tomato soup with the pasta stirred in.

I made that, it was ok, but not my favorite, so that box has sat and sat since then, unused.

The other day, I was looking through some other stuff and found this recipe for rice-and-pasta pilaf. It's from America's Test Kitchen, a favorite recipe source, I've made it before years ago and forgot about it, and I realized...hey, I can use that fideo in that!

It's pretty easy, just toasting the pasta and the rice in butter, adding onion and garlic, then cooking the rice in chicken broth, but it's very tasty.

Ummm... Rice-a-Roni is just a brand name of packaged rice and spice blends in the US and Canada. There is no "roni." I don't no where the "roni" in the name came from.

It's because of the vermicelli.

Edited to add that after I posted, I see you already got the answer.
