I am kicking myself because I forgot my phone so no pictures. We went out for dinner last night with another couple.. Shucks in Abbeville. Abbeville is about 40 minutes south west of Lafayette. We decided to arrive at 5 p.m. thinking that we would be early and miss the crowd. Wrong! There is a 4 p.m. Catholic Mass that serves as the required Sunday service. After Mass a crowd shows up at Shucks. I was not comfortable with the crowd. The Tables were separated and the staff did wear mask but there was a crowd outside because they had a band playing. We all had dozen raw oysters each. I could have eaten several dozen. George and our friends all made dips for their oysters. I ate mine with only a light drizzle of lemon juice. They were OMG delicious, plump and naturally salty. For dinner I ordered a crab cake with a side of crawfish etouffee without rice. I ordered a cane syrup vinaigrette dressings for my side salad. Wonderful. The crab cake was good - not a lot of breading but a little dry. The crawfish were overcooked. Next time I will stuff my face on raw oysters.
Other proper hand-raised pies are available! Melton Mowbray's have achieved a certain status driven largely by marketing, and whilst they are good pies they do not represent the holy grail. They are probably healthier than generic pork pies - unusually, the meat in a Melton Mowberry is not cured, and is usually of leaner cuts, giving a different flavour profile.Maje sure it's a proper Melton Mowbray hand raised pie, some if the supermarket versions are vile - like haggis in a can.
Beef burger with some form of fried potatoes which my wife inadvertently bought just recently. How these are classified as "food" I'll never know. My wife's English is far from perfect but I thought she would know that "shoestrings" are not chips.
Fried cauliflower rice with shrimps and chicken. A competition finalist for me Yorkers. The remainder of the offensive items have now been swapped for two cauliflowers from the Fat Lady. I didn't want anything in return and now I have to figure what to do with two cauliflowers.

A friend brought me these from Hong Kong a few years ago. They were very good.
