What did you cook or eat today (November 2024)

Tovala meals, vegan this time. Vegetable potstickers and vegetable fried rice, with a corn and edamame salad, plys crunchy onions for garnish. The red stuff is sriracha.

In the works is this ☝️ dish
Cheese Tortellini covered in Sweet Italian Sausage, Kale, Sweet White Onions Olive Oil & grated Cheese.
One of my favorites.
I found a coupla frozen Garlic Breadsticks in the deep freeze as I was clearing space for my cakes to sell ...

Pork Shank from the good butcher, so lots of meat and not much fat and gristle. Watched a cooking show a couple of weeks ago that gave me the idea. Browned shank, removed, sauteed mirepoix, added some dried thyme and garlic, then a whole bottle of pinot grigio from the 4-packs, deglazed, added Chicken broth, a chicken bouillon cube, S&P, and soaked flageolet beans. Braised for a couple of hours. Roasted some fennel and onion slices separately for garnish. Made potato/cauliflower mash. Used an immersion blender on the liquid to make gravy.

BTW, also saw a new way of making mash. Instead of boiling potatoes in water and draining, use milk, butter, and S&P to cook the potatoes over a low simmer, then mash. You have to keep it at a low simmer so the milk doesn't curdle, but having the fatty butter also helps with that. They came out perfect!

My OH had just sent me this image. He walked past a Korean tofu place and dropped in. It wasn't his intended eatery.

He ordered using the pictures, and the picture only showed the bowl on the right with the spoon in it...

He now needs to stay awake for the rest of the day!

I cooked a chicken Ishtu (Keralan chicken with coconut milk) , a sabzi panchmel (five vegetable curry) and some samosa filling for 60 people. Not a big deal when you've got 4 cooks to help you. The only problem was, they're all new, so I had to check every single thing they did.
The down side? My feet are killing me!  7 hours without sitting down; I think I need one of SSOAP's insane Thai foot massages!

We won 3 night meat raffles a few weeks ago
2 packs just had beef on.
So dont ever assume. Pack 1 about 500 gms. I thought steak sonic prepared the meal but when it thawed I made mince on toast
Today I took pack 2 out. When thawed it was beef pieces for s casserole etc..
Change of plan I minced it to make mince on toast and it was 10/10 'with grated cheese on top.
Comfort food.
