What did you cook or eat today (October 2021)?

Today's meal was a repeat, a favorite of mine, - penne with sun dried tomato four cheese pesto.

Thanks!

Of all the pizza styles available in the US, I've never made a Chicago style deep dish pizza from scratch. I'll have to change that soon, I think.

New York vs Chicago pizza discussions turn into fist fights.

Chicago pizza? It’s not pizza, it’s a f------ casserole. This is tomato soup in a breadbowl. It’s a cornbread biscuit which you melted cheese on, and then in defiance of man and God and all things holy, you poured uncooked marinara sauce atop the cheese. Atop. The cheese. On top!

Hastily and sloppily compiled hot roasted-chicken sandwich on a toasted bun with melted provolone, bacon, fresh garden lettuce and the ever-so-offensive mayonnaise and mustard combination. It looks a mess but it was delicious!

I finally had my first Popeye's Spicy Chicken Sandwich! It was really quite good. MUCH better than Chic-Fil-A (plus Popeye's is open on Sundays, and it's okay with Popeye's if your'e gay).

I haven't had one yet (I think), but I did make a copycat version of it a while back which was excellent.

I really wish I had a better photo of this, because it was something different for me and very, very good:

Those are pork tenderloin medallions with a top crust of turbinado sugar, orange zest, and fresh sage. The medallions get seared on one side, flipped, the sugar mixture quickly pressed on top, then under the broiler for several minutes.

It comes out with something akin to a hard candy shell on top. The sauce is made from the pan drippings, orange juice, more sage, and a splash of cider vinegar at the end.

The potatoes are Portuguese punched potatoes (batatas a murro) - boiled with the skin on, then smashed a bit to open them, tossed in oil with fresh garlic and a bay leaf, then baked in the oven until crispy/creamy, then topped with cheese and caramelized onions and tossed back in the oven for a bit.

I have no idea why one photo is collosal and the other normal...sorry if I blinded anybody

Not something I buy either. I remember it being a bit of a big thing for a short time when it first came on the scene here. Maybe late 1970’s or early 80’s? As a child I liked it but not later. I haven’t had it in many many years though I’m sure there would be a bottle in the fridge at my inlaws place as they tend to get food nostalgic for the 1980’s.
When I first moved in, there was a bottle of A1 Steak Sauce in the refrigerator. The first time I made ribeye steaks for my husband, he pulled it out and put it on the table. I was horrified. I wouldn't let him put it on the steak until he tasted my properly marinated and seasoned beef first. He ditched the A1 and never looked back.

The best pizza I ever ate in Chi town was when my husband and I were hiking down Broadway and ran into a NY style pizzeria joint. We stopped for a slice and a cold beer. It was one of those thin crust, cheesy and slightly greasy slices that are like slabs that hang over the edge of the plate, and it was heavenly.

I've been wanting to try one of those. They do look really good. Unfortunately the only Popeye's around here are in the hood and I don't feel safe going.

Oh, BTW, my cousin in Texas (the one who your sister knows from high school) and her husband own a Chick-fil-A. You'll be happy to know that she and her husband are much more liberal than most franchisees, thankfully. They don't mind people who are gay. But they do rather enjoy having Sundays off.
