What did you cook or eat today (July 2023)?

Looks good. How do you make the crispy mushrooms?
Thanks!

Heated the oven up to 450F, put down some parchment paper on a baking sheet, tossed the sliced medley of mushrooms in salt, pepper, and oil, spread them out in a single layer, then about 25 minutes in the hot oven, stirring once halfway through.

Did it come out of the oven blurry like that, or is that one of the ingredients that did that?
I am not sure what you mean, the pic isn't sharp indeed but what you might mean is that some of the buffalo mozzarella has become translucent. That's normal if you use buffalo mozzarella, which is why most Italians actually use cow's milk mozzarella for pizza or add buffalo mozzarella only when using a wood fired oven.
But I just really like the taste of the buffalo mozzarella more, but don't have a wood fired oven so I end up with some bits being translucent.

Yesterdays evening meal.

This was one of my first experimental kettle cooks (cooked in an electric kettle).
Was blown away by how easy it was to do. Has to be easy because you’re tired after a days mobiking.

Playing catch up...

So the weekend hubby "cooked"...

Almost qualifies as a variation but only because the weather was crap and the deep freeze is in the garage which means full waterproofs and hat, gloves, coat and so on...

And I cooked yesterday.

Cauliflower cheese with a silverbeet, capers, olives, nut & tofu strudel.

By electric kettle, do you mean the kind of kettle you use to boil water for tea? :scratchhead:

Yep 👍

Sounds awful doesn’t it, but essentially anything that can be poached or boiled can be cooked in an electric kettle.

Not really any difference between a saucepan of boiling water and a kettle. The experiments continue!

I like the idea, but do you run the risk of making boiled water taste like something you cooked in it?

Interesting! Looking forward to knowing how this is done in case my gas supply is cut off and all my pots and pans go missing. :)

In seriousness, it is sort of cool. I made a recipe a few months back that uses a rice cooker as a slow cooker to cook a large hunk of pork and I wasn't expecting greatness but it worked a treat!

It is done sous vide style but without the temperature control and you just squeeze the air out of the bag. So no flavours are transferred, unless you’re a bit silly and use thin bags 👍

Could you show a photo of the electric kettle please? I'm not sure what that is. Is it the same as a crockpot/slow cooker?

Edit Never mind. I just read the posts after.
