What did you cook or eat today (June 2021)?

OMG Belize? Now I'm really jealous. MypinchofItaly is going to Rome, you're in Belize...I get to enjoy refinery row in SE Texas.

We did have a layover in Houston. It was supposed to be 40 minutes, but turned out to be four hours because we had trouble with the fire suppression system on the plane. So, I got to enjoy airport food and drink.

There were these touchscreen tablets so you could order food and drink, and somebody delivered it to you fairly quickly. I didn’t have a chance to finish this monster 25 ounce Lonestar beer because I thought the plane was leaving the first time. The beer was good, but the food was mediocre.

I still don't eat in restaurants, but thanks. I'll be staying the night in Port Neches during some of my visit, though, then going to see my aunt during the day. The main purpose of my visit is to spend time with my cousins and say my goodbyes to my aunt who is dying. I'll probably do a lot of cooking and cleaning to help out and just try to be supportive.

Making potato hash with eggs for breakfast today.

I’m so sorry to hear about your aunt. Trying to be supportive to her and your cousins is very touchful. All my esteem and sweet thoughts for the family, not a easy moment. A big hug to you.

This morning I made another smoothie. Unfortunately, my raspberries went moldy, but the blueberries were still good.

I therefore, made a blueberry smoothie as planned.

I needed the raspberries for my last dark chocolate recipe and now, that is out. The best I can do is post the recipe without making it. I will do that.

Lonestar? Nobody in Texas actually drinks that -- that I know. Although, if you say it was good, I'll take your word for it. I haven't tasted one since college -- 40 years ago.

I have been to one of those restaurant/bars with the touch screen ordering in some airport. I don't recall where -- maybe SanFran. I do recall that the food was mediocre. I also didn't know what tip, since all anyone did was deliver food and drink to me. I think I only did 10-percent -- half my usual tip. I recall thinking afterward, "What a stupid concept."

I assume that was at Intercontinental Airport (IAH)?

It did serve the purpose as a beer that I could drink quickly…probably also the appeal that it had for you in college.

I have an app that I use to track beers I had, and where I had them:

Untappd - Drink Socially

I learned about it while on a beer brewery tour in Reykjavik in 2018. It now serves as more of a travelogue than something I use to find great beer. This was my first time (technically) in Texas, and it won’t be the last.

While on the plane, we met a woman from Galveston who said that the one good that came out of the pandemic was that it made her really appreciate her state. Texas is enormous, and I’m sure there’s a lot of things to see and do than drink Lonestar beer at the airport.

My meal for today was lamburgers with french fries and onion rings.

The lamburgers included melted cheese, stone ground mustard, green leaf lettuce, onion, tomato and as sides, included french fries and onion rings, garnished with tomato and pepperoncini peppers.

Back in college, Lonestar was cheap. It's not so cheap, anymore, which leads me to believe they upped their game. I need to try one again (don't tell my doctors).

You do need to come back to Texas. I think you would really like Austin and the surrounding "Hill Country." Dallas and Houston are primarily "Business Cities." San Antonio has lots of history (and is an hour away from Austin), while the official motto of Austin is "Keep Austin Weird."

Thank you so much. I am not certain she will even know that I am there. My cousins say she sleeps a lot and isn't very cognitive. I am going to sit with her and chat with her like she does know.

She's my mother's little sister. My aunt was always very kind to me, especially when I was a very young child. At holidays we would go over to Texas from where we lived in Florida (about a 14 hour drive) and spend several days, and she would cook these amazing meals. I am sure I was in the way and a bother, but she let me be in the kitchen while she was cooking meals and baking her fantastic pies. She and I always remained close.

When my mother got sick right before she died, my aunt had a stroke the following day, and the two sisters were in the hospital at the same time, several states apart. I didn't tell my mother that my aunt was sick and my cousins didn't tell their mother that my mom was ill right away. It was quite strangely coincidental. We had a celebration of life service for my mother instead of a funeral, several weeks after she passed. My aunt was just barely recovered but insisted that my cousins bring her for the service.

My husband went to a family barbecue a little while ago. I just am not feeling like being social today. I went and got a pedicure earlier and my first real haircut since 2019. I have been trimming it myself in the front and sides and my husband cut the back ends for me once during 2020. My stylist was amazed that it was in such good shape and not too uneven, considering that my husband and I don't have a lick of experience cutting hair.

I am going to make a frozen pizza for dinner, I think. Unless hubby brings me back a plate of barbecue.

My sister who is closest to me in age lives in Austin, as does one of my stepdaughters. I have family all over Texas, even though I have never lived there.
