What did you cook or eat today (March 2025)

The only waxed things we get here are candles.
You're lucky! Lemons orange and all sorts get waxed. I hate it. It's why I try to grow a lot of my own stuff. It was worse in the UK though because fruit and veg had to travel so far to get to the shops, so it was waxed to keep it fresh(er).

Here, if it’s labeled organic, it can’t be waxed, so that’s why I usually buy organic citrus, because I almost always want the zest for something, and I don’t want to have to do the vinegar wash they recommend to remove the wax.

Hubby didn't quite nail the poached eggs this time but we've only got blue shelled eggs at the moment and the chook that lays them is older and the whites don't stay with the yolks when you poach them, and you can't hard boil then at all... the rest will be in pancakes on Monday.

Cause it tastes and feels yucky!
I don’t really notice it much when I eat an apple, but for some reason, it bothers me with the citrus zest, probably because I can see it curling off if I look really closely.

Apples…if I run my fingernail along the outside, I can see it, but I’m not in the habit of doing that. The strange thing is…certain pears don’t seem to get the light coating of wax. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm liking this waffle fries slicer thing but it's not doing anything for my saturated fat and salt intake. Tastes good though so state of mind thing. 🤷‍♂️View attachment 125784
Once the novelty wears off, you can make it an occasional thing and not a frequent one.

I got my waffle maker the other day but I haven't gotten around to using it yet, though I do have my chop/slice/grate thing around. I just thought with the waffle maker it would be using less grease and making less mess.

I like my new waffle maker. Cuisinart with a thermostat and it does that flip it over thing.

I went the cheap route and just bought a little mini one, since I will only be using it for a platform for waffle hashbrowns to top with eggs for DH's breakast (I think). It's living in the pantry for now. I have a big workweek coming up so I don't know how much "real" cooking I will get done!

At my usual pick-up-MrsT-from-the-airport, the Marriott bar.

They’ve added fish-and-chips to the menu - 8oz of fish, some fries/chips/whatever, coleslaw, and a Creole dipping sauce (looked like mayonnaise, ketchup, and paprika, but what do I know?)…$39US! That’s nuts.

I settled for my reasonable-by-comparison $22 club sandwich!
